Family Food Experts was founded by Ellen Briggs and Sally Byrd for the initial purpose of helping parents learn about how to ensure their children's future through proper nutrition, healthy eating and a balanced lifestyle. The first step was getting their book published, Are Your Kids Running on Empty?, and the CD Cookbook, Mom, I’m Hungry. What’s for Dinner? The vision continues to grow as Ellen and Sally passionately pursue food and beverage companies to package healthier, good tasting products that parents can easily identify on grocers' shelves through the Kid Kritics Approved seal. The Family Food Experts Ingredient Standards Certification Board was formed (see below) to bring unquestionable credibility to the nutritional value of the KKA seal.
Ellen and Sally realized a grass roots, “Listen to Us” campaign was critical to achieving the goal of making companies produce positive changes for the health of everyone. GoMillionMoms.com was created to give each person a voice to be heard. It serves as a platform to speak up and Be One in a Million. Initially, the Kid Kritics Approved seal is the focal point to seek a million signatures. This advocacy site will prove to be the major vehicle behind getting companies to make the healthier changes. It is hard to say “No” to a million moms.
There will be ongoing petitions about health issues that extend beyond food. We will listen to your voice and you will be heard.
Ellen Briggs, food consultant, has spent most of her career in sales and marketing in the media, advertising, and in the natural foods industry. She began her Better Food Choices education as a child. Her mother refused to succumb to the original Wonder Bread and TV dinner trends. Organic gardens were found in her family's yard, a novelty at the time. Over time, all of this made an impression on Ellen. She was influenced by her mother's Better Choices lifestyle when she became mother of Deirdre and Justin. After thirty years of either working or being a stay-at-home mom, Ellen started a food consulting business. She began working directly with mothers and kids, guiding them through grocery stores in search of Better Food Choices kids would eat. The foundation of the book Are Your Kids Running on Empty? was built on these experiences. The CD Cookbook Mom, I?m Hungry. What?s for Dinner?, Brands to Trust shopping list, and the Fuel Your Dreams poster are offshoots of the book. All have been created to make it easy for parents to find ways to fill their kids up with Better Food Choices.
